Metrophobic

Are you a metrophobic?
I thought I was once.
The laughter, and shame...
My answers... I was a dunce.
I hated English literature
Surely not all poets did the same...
I believed they wrote from their hearts,
That mere ink was their game.
But no, I was wrong!
They wrote with terms are purpose,
"This metaphor means this"
"This alliteration means surplus"
Surely I cannot be alone?
Not all poets think their way.
I just write what's in my head,
And I will till my dying day.

My AS level English literature teacher hated me. I hated her, she believed that every word, every small piece of grammar had a message, a hidden meaning behind it. How many people truly write this way? Set out what they want in a poem, caesuras, metaphors, similies, and decide what each of these secret pieces mean. Do they not just flow? Is some poetry not just as easy as looking at it and saying "clearly this means this" there should be no need for why or because. Each person takes from it what they want to. It should not be forced.

Anyway, ode to all of those that wrote from their hearts and not their minds. T'is my rant over.

Write from both (:

@Jamtots ๐Ÿ˜œ now that's just cheeky. And they don't always wish to comply with each other. ๐Ÿ˜…๐Ÿ˜•

I write what pops in hun. Sometimes when I've written a piece I read it back and realise it can be read a couple of ways, but mainly inspiration just comes from a word or sentence, I write it down and away I go ๐Ÿ‘โค

@leelee101 exactly. My English teacher never understood my point.

@Odd her loss hun. ๐Ÿ‘โค

Reminds me of my English teacher last year. That's why my best subject became one of my least favorites.

@burrahobbit The teachers ruined English for me too ๐Ÿ‘Ž

@burrahobbit @Jamtots clearly teachers ruin English for everyone. Maybe they should stick to just language. Lol ๐Ÿ˜œ

This is why English Lit was was worst GCSE, they read too much into it and half the time forgot what the poem was even saying!

I had a teacher like that ๐Ÿ˜‚ "the poem was written about this" and there's me sitting there thinking, "how do you know? Was you there when they wrote it?" Lol ๐Ÿ˜Š

@naaviie @BethyBoo seems to me like English teachers are just the worst people for inspiring people to write, or maybe they're so bad, they make us enjoy it.... Who knows.

๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚!
