I sit, all the time. It should get painful but I can't feel a thing. Can you? I don't expect so.
I think you sit, too. I can't see your legs very well anymore since she moved you. but I can hear you thinking. I hear everything.
I sometimes wonder if you can hear me, too, and if you're really trying to ignore me. I don't really mind, honest. You keep to yourself. It's probably best.
It's been sixteen years, you know? Since they left. I counted. I must say, the place has gotten greener in that time. Don't you agree?
Never mind.
I know every inch of this car, you know. Every inch. Well, apart from the back, though, but that doesn't count because my head won't turn that far.
I can turn to see you, though. Did you ever used to move? I can't imagine it.
You do look very pretty from here. Each hinge joint. Every little black and yellow circle. Your arms, just like they positioned you.
Do you ever miss the testing? With mister Roberts? Remember that?
I do, sometimes. I don't miss the bit where it hurt, though, but the whizz before it was nice.
I wonder, could you hear me if I called to you? Could you? Could we talk, then? It's such a shame they didn't give us mouths.
I can hear everything, you know. Every bird. I even heard the first big boom.
You must remember that one. The one with all the fire, and the flashes. Remember? They all listened to the radio, and Mister Roberts and the angry woman were so funny! They wouldn't stop running and and screaming. The angry woman's face was very crumpled and wet. I think she must have been laughing. But then they hugged. It was very odd.
They quietened down after the booms and the flashes, though. In fact they weren't really there at all when I next looked. They'd gone all red and black and peely.
You can still see where they used to lie, just there, in the middle of the crash testing track. They must have gone while I wastn't looking. I think one farted, because they smelled awful.
When did the last car drive past, do you know? It must have been a good week after the other boom flashes. It was all big and green and metal, and very funny shaped.
I always wonder whether if they were here to move us, we could have gone somewhere with no crash testing. You would have liked that.
