Another World

Part 1!

The bombs exploded. The whole world was alight with the burning flames that engulfed it all. Anything I had ever cared for; gone. I stood in the cave with the only other people who survived. There were maybe a hundred of us of the millions of people who had lived on the planet we called home. I can't tell you how long we stayed there. It could have been a few hours or several years. I never got hungry, for we had been prepared. There was enough food to feed thousands, but no where near a thousand even heard the warning signal. The duchess had survived. She was at loss for words. Everyone had looked to her for direction.
"Look everyone, this is a terrible thing and we are all lucky to have survived. But I'm sadly not fit to lead you all. I was married in to the royal family and I'm not a natural leader," she had tried to reason with us. As she got tired of repeating the same thing, she finally gave in. At some point the decision to send someone to the top was issued. The bravest were sent. The stone that blocked the door way way moved a fraction. And all at once, the blue light flooded in.

In the centre of the wall, a single red light flickered on. The small, black speaker below it crackled into life, and a cold, metallic voice filled the room.

I sit, all the time. It should get painful but I can't feel a thing. Can you. I don't expect so. I think you sit, too. I can't see your legs very well anymore since she moved you.

The Dutch gas mask fitted nicely, and a bargain at the cost. Only £4.50, without it his life would be lost. Even the N.B.C suit, that was £4.50 too. Nuclear-Biological-Chemical suit.
