Red sky at dinner time, shepherds pie...

God is always talking to us...

Exactly - "For ever since the world was created, people have seen the earth and sky. Through everything God made, they can clearly see his invisible qualities--his eternal power and divine nature. So they have no excuse for not knowing God." (Romans 1:20)

The saying has been corrupted over the years. It was originally ' red spy at night, shepherds delight. It came about during the cold war. A glamorous Russian spy crash landed in the Cheviot Hills one night. Feeling disorientated she left her plane and wandered about until, finally, she discovered a lonely shepherd's hut. Knocking gently on the door she aroused the shepherd who invited her in for the night. His delight at this arrangement went down in history!

@JollyRoger I love finding out where sayings etc originate from but that story doesn't make sense to me... Going by the "red spy" saying why would it delight the Shepard at night and not at dawn?? I do know however that it states in the bible that people were using signs of nature and I believe God is always talking to us so I think I like the "red sky" version 😊

I have no doubt that what @JollyRoger said is true, never heard that before! But I also know that this saying does originate from the bible where Jesus states that shepherds can predict the weather by the red skies in morning and evening (see in Matthew 16:2-3).
