My 4th Birthday
So ecstatic and sweet
Daddy called that day
At 3 we'd meet
"Hey there!
Happy Birthday, Lauryn!"
"Hi Daddy!
Will you been here soon?"
"At 3.
Be ready."
"Promise?"
"Of course sweetie!"
"Okay. Bye Daddy!"
"Bye!"
I pushed the phone back to mom
Ran to my room, but not to cry
I got ready
And waited by the door
Starting very soon,
I slept on the floor
At exactly 3
Daddy yet to come or call
I patiently waited
Leaning against a wall
Eager to see him
I wandered by the window
'twas 9 o' clock on the evening
To dinner, I said no
"What if Daddy comes
While I'm eating?"
I was then ignored
Taking a brutal beating
My kitty
The perfect pillow
I sleep right next to the door
Still Daddy never showed
The very next day
I ventured in my room
Never thinking
It'd assist in my emotional doom
You'd be there
At 3
You promised
And lied to little me
I never knew
I'd still remember
How you left
And came back never
Now I possess another wish
That I didn't care in the first place
That I never knew you
Or had seen your face
You changed me
That particular day
I grew up
The little girl vanished, never to stay
Your
One lie
Broke your little girl
Her entire lifetime
