I could hear my heart thumping in my chest, the blood flowing around me, so much so that I couldn't think about what I was doing. My hands fumbled in my pocket to grab the key I needed, it was cool to the touch but was soon warm and slippery since I was sweating a lot.
After many attempts of getting the key in the lock, wildly jabbing at the surrounding area, it went in and with a satisfying click, I flung it open. The room inside was dank and seemed to drip like a cave or sewer. I climbed the single bar ladder on the stone wall, both of which seemed to be caked in a layer of sludge. I pushed up the circular lid and daylight flooded in.
It was empty, sirens sounded in the distance, I was at the edge of town. I shut the lid back on tight and grinned. The yellowed landscape was ahead of me. They can't find me now. My feet were ahead of myself, they sprung into action and I ran.
