"You're here."
"I'm here."
"Okay... That's weird. You're here. Why were you not here... Then here?"
I hug Sephy quickly and step backwards. When we hug our paper gowns rustle together, and she straightens hers out awkwardly.
"Let's not think about that now. Let's try and figure out why we are here... Why we are- dead."
My words silence Sephy and her eyes tear up. She blinks them away, sniffing, and again looks down the front of her gown. I look around, my eyes do a full sweep of the nothingness we are standing in and though I expect to see nothing, my eyes rest on a small speck. A figure, very far away in the blankness of the plane.
"Jo?"
"There is someone over there. Not moving. Let's go."
We move together, and slowly the figure gets larger as we get closer.
It's a man. He's floating, like the ghostly apparition that Sephy was.
He has ginger hair, and he is quite fit... I can only see him from the back. If I wasn't dead, I'd consider flirting with him.
"Help! Someone! Anyone! I can't see, it's all white! Where am I?!"
The man speaks, but nothing of him moves.
"We're here, can you... See us?"
He turns around, and floats back. He's in a hospital gown, too.
"Help me. Please."
"Close your eyes."
The apparition does not move. But he hushes, and I think hard, willing him here. Sephy does the same. And suddenly, when I open my eyes, he is there.
"Thank you! Where are... Where are... we?"
The man shivers. He crosses his arms, then looks surprised. He notices he's wearing a hospital gown. He frowns, looking under it, and then he yelps.
"Am I... Dead?!"
"I'm afraid so..." Sephy bites her lip awkwardly.
He sobs, and murmurs something that sounds like 'what about Lucy'
I assume Lucy is a girlfriend or wife.
"What's your name?"
"Tom."
"Okay Tom. Let's figure out how to get out of here."
