Don't look in the egg cup
it's long abandoned curve
lonely convex hollow
where origin of birds
was laid for soldiers dipping
soft and warm and safe
at Sunday morning sittings
with juice and coffee made

your one styled like a monk
with hairless bonce long eaten, gone
the bread/toast cut and dunked
Cadburys without chocolate
Fireman Sam, Tom Thumb
lining kitchen windows
a child's morning fun

Don't look in the egg cup
there's only air, no time
your protein may be scrambled
and served with salmon side
fried with peppers, onions
mix juice with (pop) bucks fizz
we'll have a champagne breakfast
just don't look in there, please
