We Are in Drought

We are in drought
The poster said
I'll wash myself
With sand instead
Drink only blood
Throw plants away
Once withered in
The cruel sun's rays

We are in drought
So says the news
No hosepipes, sprinklers
Save the blue
For only those
Important things
Cleansing feet
Of Stars and Kings

We are in drought
The people say
Don't throw your
Dirty bowl away
Save the water
Save the rain
Cut your shower
Plug the drain

We are in drought
Or so I've heard
The lakes are dust
The rivers dry
The cities baked
A sand filled kiln
Dust beneath
A hard, clear sky

We are in drought
Apparently
So tell me this
Why does it seem
That every time
I leave the house
I'm sodden through
Both in and out

I know! Tell me about it. I can't do my gardening for rain - lol

Ha! This is so true! Bloody English weather. I loved the rhythm of this poem

@shanwan Thanking you! I find writing on the train helps with rhythms sometimes! J x

Love it! So true about there being a rule for the common people, and a rule for the 'Stars and Kings'. Looking outside my window now, I see no sign of drought either!
