@Bobobear I'm from Southampton and my dear old mum saw the Titanic leave port (she was 8 at the time). I have a few original postcards and a few items signed by survivors.

@TheCodsPollocks how interesting. Titanic items are very collectable now I understand. I think the whole idea of such a major disaster captures people's imagination. Did your Mum remember it clearly, I imagine to a child it must have been enormous.

She remembers the grief 5 days later when everyone heard about the disaster. She said she just remembers the children just keeping out of the way.

@TheCodsPollocks it must have been an awful time and the resent accident with the cruise ship shows the danger is still there.
