I find myself drifting
Before,
it was as if I was asleep at the bottom of a dark, murky lake,
with the silt and the waterweed curling around me,
Growing around my shape
Enveloping me.
I lay dreaming of light,
Dreaming of far of lands with silver skies
And mirrored palaces
And changing faces with mother of pearl shining from their eyes.
If anyone was to see me,
I would appear a pebble, tiny, white and
Reflecting the rays of light that
Peeked
Through the billowing clouds of dust.
I was curled around my tiny hope,
Encased in layers of shell and sand
One day something changed
And I began feeling lighter,
Softer, human
Growing arms and legs
Welling up inside with air and soul
And I began floating
I began sinking upwards
I began to be pulled through the ripples by my strings
Changing, growing, opening my eyes
Cracking out of the shell
Layers of sandstone dissolving
Releasing me, and cleansing my absorbed body
I was carried by a current to the clear waters
Salt less, warm, rippling
And then I was at peace
The crystal water which runs through my veins
Makes my hair float around my face like a shoal of fish
Makes my eyes mirror the phosphorescence that
Dances across the water in the moonlight
Makes my skin shine like the silver scales of a mermaid
And so, now I am drifting
Slipping in the warm shallows on my back,
Looking up at the sun which pours like honey into the waters,
Warming my body.
I see the sky
I see the water,
And I am drifting
