Tabitha Green, walked
Never looked back,
Never once cried,
Never spoke of this until
The day she died,
Tabitha Green, lied
Lied to her mum,
Lied to her dad,
Lied to her kids,
In the dreams she wished
Tabitha Green, dead
But she spoke to me instead;
'Brother', she said
'Yes?'
'I have killed someone', she said,
And gripped my hand,
Turned in her bed,
My fingers,
Touching her tears,
'Murderer', she cursed,
'Tabitha' I said,
And traced the lines
Of her final verse;
Tabitha Green, walked
Out of marriage,
Away in courage,
Beaten to flee
Her husbands needs
Tabitha Green, chained
Kept confused
Her life abused
In misery,
She knows that 'she
Will be rid of me, only
By killing me', he joked
'So', she says, 'I ran away'
And more; 'He broke, he shattered
Into little pieces, unable to understand
Why?' he screamed at the door,
Banging his fists
Punching the air
Breaking things,
The door, the house, his life
'Ended in drink', Tabitha said,
'Drowned by me'
'Sister', I said, before she died
'Remember this'
Tabitha Green, innocent
Your life immaculate
Your life redeemed
In four children,
Dedicated, compassionate
Tabitha Green, died
Her secret with me,
Buried and unseen
Kept in ink, but
Stored away, hidden until a time
I die, and
Tabitha Green can be remembered in rhyme.
