Crossbreed: Ch.2

I slipped my parka on as we boarded off the plane. My favorite canvas shoes got soaked by the white slush coming from above and below. Mom kept smiling with excitement and pretty soon it rubbed off on me; I was practically bouncing in my seat in the taxi.

Mom said I had to close my eyes because we were almost to the house. I did as she said and pretty soon, I heard the taxi pull into a driveway and come to a stop. Mom opened the car door and led me out. "Open your eyes!" Mom whispered. I opened them and was awestruck. Was this really where I was going to live from now on? This…this massive ranch house?

I undeniably loved it. It was the dream house I had always pictured in my head. It was painted sky blue with white-trimmed windows. I snapped out of my frozen state and rolled my luggage to the wrap-around front porch.

I still said nothing as Dad fumbled with the keys and unlocked the front door. He slowly pushed it open and we walked in and onto dark hardwood floors. The interior was the same color as the exterior, with dark mahogany accents everywhere.

To the left was the dining room and kitchen, and to the right was the carpeted family room. A staircase was straight ahead as you walked through the front doorway.

I ventured upstairs, which had four bedrooms and two bathrooms. Downstairs also had two bathrooms. I made a left and examined each room. I took the first bedroom on the right as mine, because I liked the red color of the walls. I walked back down and sat on the family room carpet. Dad was calling the storage place where our furniture was temporarily being held.

The storage company truck was now parked in front of the house and Dad was loading boxes in. I took this as a time to escape. "I'm going for a bike ride!" I yelled toward the room that Mom was in when I spotted my bike next to the storage company truck. "Okay, have fun!" Mom yelled back. I half-walked half-ran through the open front door and grabbed my bike. I crossed over into the forest that was across the street.

There was a convenient path to follow as I rode along. I saw that the maple trees were being used to collect syrup. I set my bike down next to the path and sat myself down to lean against a tree. I closed my eyes and listened to the peacefulness of the birds chirping.

Suddenly, I heard something of large mass go past when all the birds flew from the tree with angry chirps. My eyelids flew open and I watched the fleeing birds in the sky. My heart was beating frantically. "Are there any bears out here?!" I thought to myself with sudden terror as I tried to recall any brochures that mentioned bears.

I didn't know what to do, so I climbed and perched myself in the fork of the tree. I looked at my surroundings, like a pirate looking for land.

Then, I saw something in the distance through the trees. It sure looked like a bear at first, but as it came closer, the canine characteristics were all there.

My eyes widened at the fact that this was a massive wolf, larger than a bear, and it had golden blonde fur. It came pretty close to the tree when it actually laid down and whined. It looked defenseless and harmless, and of course, I had always been a sucker for dogs. So, like a psychopath, I climbed down from the tree and went up to it. It looked at me and then, for no reason at all, got up quickly. What did I do wrong? Suddenly, it rose up on its hind legs and I cringed.

Then, I watched as a glittering wave washed over the wolf. The product was a normal-looking boy with brown hair and eyes. Oh, and one more thing—he was naked.
