'Bollocks.'
Not normally the first words I would use to greet my friend Lloyd, but that's what came out. He'd been a good friend of mine since the dinosaurs, and he worked at the place that I happened to frequent. I'd go there to read a bit, write a bit, or just generally people watch. Sometimes a beer, sometimes tea, or lunch, but Lloyd was there and he made my free time pass much more easily. He knew me well, and he'd seen that I'd seen her. It was a couple of days ago, it was only a glance, but it was pretty much a 'BLAM' moment. He also knew that she was the reason I'd spent a lot more time than was absolutely necessary in this place lately, to see if she'd came back at all. He knew. I knew. So, Lloyd, had she been in again? No? Bollocks.
So there I was again, sipping on a cold beer and barely looking at my newspaper. Lloyd had put the lime in again. I hate the lime, so I threw it at him. I missed of course, and he just laughed. I returned to the newspaper and could register that a new customer had come in, as I could hear him going through the polite greetings and nonsense that he always came out with. A couple more people left, leaving a few coins in the tip jar. It was pretty quiet now, and I was suddenly aware that I hadn't seen Lloyd at the end of the bar (my perch) for an age. I looked down at my phone to check for messages. Nothing new. And when I looked up again Lloyd had magically appeared, and was pushing a cup of coffee across the bar toward me with his index finger.
He was grinning like an idiot. I looked at the coffee. Then at Lloyd. Then I pushed it back to him.
'No, no my man that's your coffee...' he said.
I just stared at him, incredulously.
'You know I don't drink coffee, Lloyd.'
'I know that...' He was giggling. He gestured with his head in a sweeping motion toward the other end of the bar. There, with what looked very much like two cups of tea in front of her, she was.
'She knows that too...'
