Is forgiveness given or taken?
Will past hurts sleep or awaken?
Can you relent, so others find solace?
Can you offer it fully or an empty promise?
Do you dismiss from your mind
Wrongs of the worst done by mankind?
Erase past wrongs, abandon your feelings?
To forgive, leaves you dying as they are healing
In a river of forgiveness you are barely buoyant
Can't look absolution in the eye, a forgiving front
Must you lie to yourself to make others feel peace?
Should you excuse them or put yourself at ease?
I have not all the answers, I only can ask
Can all the hurt ever truly be left to rest in the past?
