On Christmas eve we were told the wonderful news
That we had two babies... my body had given me clues
The sickness was strong and the tiredness stronger
Within 5 weeks of pregnancy, my jeans fit no longer
At first I thought maybe something was very wrong
But it was just my hormones acting very very strong
Sat at the hospital we were staring at the scan pics
It was surreal, amazing, disbelief, relief in one hit
The enormity of it all was hard to take in at first
I researched all scenarios, the good and the worse
My biggest fear was losing you both, I worried so
To my amazement you both continued to grow
I knew I had two precious girls being carried inside
When it was confirmed, my delight, I did not hide
I got bigger and bigger, it was really not nice
I developed an uncontrollable craving for ice
I was warned that I could have you both too early
It was worrying but I knew that both my girlies
Were going to be ok and come when it was time to
At 38 weeks and 2 days, we had to induce you
As Maisy was growing still but Ella was not
From my placenta you had taken all it's got
It was not working sufficiently anymore
It was safer to have you out, we couldn't ignore
The birth was quick and went very well
The first time I saw you, in love I fell
It's been one heck of a ride with you both
But to love and protect you is my motherly oath
