I fell.
It hurt.
The ground rushing up towards me was the last thing I remember.
Then dark.
Painful darkness.
And now my body seemed to be listening to my commands again, I blinked - hard - trying to adjust, seeking to understand.
I sat up, a light head swimming my vision out of focus for a second. Something bright blurred the scene before me - fire, I thought dimly, trying to remember building it.
There was a hand on my shoulder, it took me a while to become aware of its strong heat on my bare sun-frazzled skin.
The hand helped me stand, steadied me as my legs wobbled, trying to give way beneath me.
Finally, I could see more clearly.
Faces.
Tattooed, copper-skinned, small dark eyes.
Staring.
I blinked hard again, the people came into focus. Stern faces looked back at me, bewilderment swept through my blood and flushed my face.
Daggers, spears, even a bow and arrow pointed towards me.
I was surrounded.
