Love And War Chpt.36

We sat down for dinner, which would have been incredibly tense if it wasn't for Keith, he was constantly cracking jokes and asking Adam and I questions. Eileen, however sat in stony silence. Adam picking up on this said 'so the wedding is on the 1st of January, we want to do it while all our friends are on holiday.' he said excitedly. 'you'll be able to make it won't you' he grinned, it was more of a statement than a question.
Eileen just stared at her plate and said,' I'll have to check the diary' she said flippantly, wiping the smile off Adams face. 'don't worry son, we wouldn't miss it for the world.' Keith said reassuringly.
'so Abby, what made an attractive girl like you fall for my brother?' Alex said chuckling. I blushed and looked at Adam. He looked at Alex and said very seriously, 'I ask myself that every day.' I turned an even deeper shade of red and looked down at my plate.
Adams mum coughed loudly and started clearing our plates even though I was still eating. 'let me help you with those Eileen.' I said standing up. She just carried on, ignoring me. So I picked up some plates anyway and followed her out to the kitchen. I placed the plates down in the sink, when I spotted a photo of Adan when he was younger with his arm around a girl with beautiful auburn hair and bright green eyes. I picked it up to get a closer look. 'that's Adam with his girlfriend Cathy.' beamed Eileen, it was the friendliest thing she had said to me since I arrived, however I did pick up the fact that she called her his girlfriend and not his old girlfriend. Having had enough of her unexplained abuse I said innocently, 'don't you mean his ex girlfriend.'
She shot me a look that could kill, 'yes of course that's what I meant.' she snapped 'they were perfect for each other.' she muttered under she breath. I stormed out of the room and ran upstairs to our room, barely containing the tears that were threatening to spill onto my cheeks.
'Abby' I heard Adam call after me. I collapsed onto the bed and buried my head in a pillow and started crying, Adam came and sat on the bed next to me and gently rubbed my back in small circles. 'I'm sorry he mumbled. 'I shouldn't have let her talk to you like that, i'll go and talk to her.'
This made me cry even harder, imagining her response.
'Abby please, your breaking my heart.' he said hugging my shoulders. I looked up, my eyes red and puffy. I collapsed into his arms and nuzzled deep into his chest.
'I'm sorry.' I sniffed.
'no Abby I'm sorry, we leave tomorrow and go to your parents house, I can't wait to meet them.' he smiled. I nuzzled deeper and fell into a deep peaceful sleep.
