Love And War Chpt.37

I woke up stiff from being curled up in a ball and my face puffy from crying, I walked into the bathroom and splashed some cold water on my face. As I walked back into the bedroom, I heard shouting downstairs and walked out to the top of the stairs.
'for the last time mum, Cathy and I aren't together anymore, you need to get over her, and grow up because I love Abby and your upsetting her just because you aren't getting your own way. I'm not going to let you ruin my life.' I heard Adam shout, the I heard a sharp sound that could have been a slap. I ran back to our room, just as Adam thundered upstairs. His left cheek was bright red and he looked upset. 'pack your stuff Abby, we are leaving now.' Adam said softly, cradling the left side of his face, he walked silently into the bathroom and locked the door. I quickly changed and threw our things in our bags, Adam got out of the bathroom so I could brush my teeth. I came out and our bags and Adam were gone. I silently padded downstairs and saw Adam by the door. He looked up at me and shot me a small smile, but I could still see the hurt in his eyes. Eileen stepped out and watched us with stony silence. 'bye mum,' Adam said quietly as we walked out the door, 'see you at the wedding.'
We hopped into a cab and I took Adams hand. I gently kissed his cheek and rested my head on his shoulder. He wrapped his arm around me, his foot was tapping in nervous anticipation at meeting my parents.
We drove for over an hour until we pulled up outside my family home. It was a decent sized house with four bedrooms, but was a far cry from Adams mansion. It was a beautiful old house with a rose bush creeping up the front of the house. I walked up to the front door that I knew so well, and pushed the bell, which button was worn from multiple uses. My mum opened the door and beamed at us both.
