The wave was getting closer.
"How far away is it?" Lydia asked, the fear evident in her voice.
"Maybe 200 feet." Jupiter said calmly.
Lydia looked.
150 feet.
Lydia could hear the screams of people below her being pulled into the rushing water. Drowning. Dying.
100 feet.
The sounds of trees collapsing to the ground made Lydia tremble. Trees were falling all around her, soon she would be next.
50 feet.
Lydia looked at Jupiter and saw her eyes. They were grey, but they looked almost like a black hole. These eyes had seen pain, more than one should ever have to see. Jupiter must have been here for a while, too.
10 feet.
Lydia readjusted herself on the tree trunk.
5 feet.
Brace yourself." Jupiter warned.
The tree made an ear-splitting sound as it fell to the ground, the roots being completely pulled out of it. Lydia fell to the ground with it. Fortunately, she and Jupiter were still hanging onto the tree, which meant that they had a flotation device.
The tree was just wide enough for Lydia to lay on, stomach down.
It was as if Lydia was on a water ride. Except for the fact that Lydia could die any moment. Horrifying sounds were coming from all around Lydia. It was as if the ocean was swallowing anything in it's path. Lydia looked back at where the wave had already been. Small Trees had been uprooted and shredded apart. People were floating on top of the water. Lydia looked away. They had to be dead.
Lydia didn't know how long they had been floating on the tree. It seemed like hours, days. Had it only been a few minutes?
Lydia looked behind her. Jupiter was still there, holding on tight.
Lydia had already survived the worst part. The water began to slow down. The water level receded, until it appeared that Lydia and Jupiter were floating in a river.
"Oh.My.God." Jupiter exclaimed. "That was freaking awesome."
Lydia stared at her new pal. "Awesome? That was terrifying!" Lydia shrieked.
"Sorry, I'm sort of an adrenaline junkie." Jupiter smiled and reached down to touch the water.
"Besides, a little water won't hurt you." Jupiter said, flicking some water at Lydia's face.
"I guess a little won-ow ow OW!" Lydia exclaimed. She scratched her face, trying to get rid of the water.
"OUCH!" Jupiter shrieked, rubbing her hand.
Lydia stared at Jupiter's skin. What had once been a tan color had now turned a silvery color. Lydia felt her own face. It was a liquidly substance, but it was quickly hardening onto her face.
"It burns!" Lydia screeched, trying to pull the substance off of her face. She and Jupiter were eventually able to pull the odd substance off of their bodies.
"Okay, don't touch the water." Jupiter said.
"What was that?" Lydia asked, frightened.
"I don't think I want to know." Jupiter muttered.
