"You fell asleep."
"Hrumhh?"
Lydia opened her eyes and was surprised to find her head being cradled in the lap of a boy.
"I said, you fell asleep."
Lydia rolled over onto her back and stared at the boy.
The boy was handsome. His blue eyes stared at her. He had curly yet scruffy blonde hair. He smirked when he caught Lydia staring at him.
Lydia controlled herself and quickly took her head off his lap, embarrassed about what she looked like. She sat down cross cross applesauce across from him.
"Sorry I slept on you."
"That's not the problem." the boy said gravely. "The problem is, you fell asleep."
"What do you mean?" Lydia asked, confused.
The boy gave her a strange look. "What do I mean?" he asked, his eyes wide. "You must be new here."
Lydia glared at him and started to stand back up. "If you're going to be rude.."
The boy smiled. A perfect smile. "No, I wasn't trying to be. But I guess you don't know. Understandable."
"Know what?" Lydia asked.
"Here's the deal, Lydia. You don't ever, I mean EVER, fall asleep. You stay awake. Never sleep. Because when you sleep, you dream. And the people who put us here can see our dreams. Then they use them against us. So tell me, what did you dream about?"
Lydia shuddered. She remembered her dream from last night. Being caught in a Tsunami. An earthquake. Dying.
"What did you dream about?" the boy asked harshly.
"I..I..there was a tsunami and an earthquake and I died and my parents died and I was being tortured and and.."
The boy sighed. "Okay. Well, I wish you had came out alive."
"Why?" Lydia asked.
"Because we're going to have to deal with your dream in a few days. And we're going to need to live through it."
