4. And A Little Bit More (Of My Fanfic)

We were sitting down and had begun to pile food on our plates when The Marauders came in. I prepared myself to publicly slight Potter again but they walked straight past. I stared at Melissa in shock.
Wow. Have I really managed to finally get him off my back? For some reason I felt almost... let down? Okay now that was weird. I guess I must have taken some pleasure out of rejecting the jerk. But now? I'm surprised I even think that much of him anymore. I think Lissa was right. I'm going mad.
Anyway, Melissa recovered first,
'I didn't get anything from Sirius. To be honest I think he expected you to get me to 'spy'.'
'Sev wouldn't tell me. Doesnt want me getting into unnecessary trouble. Just said to watch Lupin.'
Melissa leaned over the table, closer to me,
'Lupin? Out of all the Marauders Remus Lupin, prefect, has the deep, dark secret?'
'I know. Weird right?'
I looked over at them. They all, especially Lupin, looked worried. A new expression for them.
Potter caught my eye for a second then promptly looked away. Wait, James Potter had just ignored me? It was freakin weird not knowing where I stood with him. Our 'relationship' was normally pretty straight forward: he harassed me, I was annoyed/pissed off/angry with him. And today something had changed on his part.
'You know, now I think about it, he does have scars on him.'
'What?'
Melissa looked at me like I was brain dead. Okay, yeah. I was getting distracted.
'Oh yeah, I suppose he does.'
'Lily are you all right? You've gone all weird and not here. That's not you.'
Actually I didn't feel great. Woah, I started to feel really dizzy and faint and really woozy...
I blinked groggily. My head was pounding like someone was repeatedly crashing cymbals inside it. My stomach felt really empty, and full of butterflies.
I sat up quickly and vomited loudly into a bucket beside my bed.
That was gross. My mouth tasted all acidic now. And I felt really clammy.
It took me a minute to realise everything was rocking sickeningly and that nothing was the right colours. I couldn't even stay sitting up. God I felt horrible.
'Lily? Are you up yet?'
I hadn't heard anyone come in but this voice sounded too loud, too close and too forceful, like it had pierced something within me and had penetrated my mind.
'No.' I groaned but even that made me feel sick. I couldn't open my eyes, talk, move. What happened?
'Oh Lily I was so worried. You've been out for a week in cold sweats and hot sweats and oh my god lily we thought you were dying or something.'
'I feel like I'm dying.' that made my stomach churn dangerously but I couldn't help but answer.
'Well,' said another voice, Madam Pomfrey probably,'Now you're awake we can begin to administer you medication.'
I opened my eyes a crack, squinting through the unnatural brightness and the nauseating kaleidoscope of colours to see Melissa sitting by my bed and Madam Pomfrey standing over me. I must have been in the hospital wing.
'Miss Evans, I think that what happened to you looks like a type of food poisoning. I highly doubt you could get food poisoning from Hogwarts food which makes me think someone poisoned you.'
I blinked in shock then remembered the colours too late and threw up into the bucket again.
The next day I had managed to stop throwing up for hours at a time and could open my eyes without fainting so I was discharged but I had to take a gulp of sweet tasting medicine twice a day.
I was walking into the common room and noticed The Marauders. Why did my stomach drop when they only spared a glance for me?
I needed to stop thinking about them. Apart from figuring out what their secret was.
I gladly flopped down on a beanbag, it slightly eased the feeling of seasickness.
'So, Lissa, I think it was The Marauders.'
'What? That poisoned you?'
'Yes. Who else would want to? They don't want me discovering their secret.'
Melissa screamed piercingly. It made my temples throb harder but I managed to see a rat scurrying away.
'God Melissa, kill my head some more why don't you? It's just a rat.'
She looked apologetic.
'I'm sorry but rats are disgusting.'
'You were poisoned?' I looked behind me and saw Potter looking murderous. ????
'Yes Potter I was poisoned. Congratulations your trick worked. I hope you had a nice laugh at me passing out because it hurts too much for your efforts to be wasted.'
'I didn't- wouldn't- I couldn't-'
'Save it for someone who cares.' I said coldly. Potter looked shocked but also as if realisation had dawned on him.
'Oh Potter, is your memory coming back now? Yes when you poisoned my food?'
He didn't respond, just walked hurriedly away. I faintly heard him mutter 'Sirius'.
'Lils, you should give it a rest. I don't think it was him.'
'Are you joking Liss? Of course it was him. He tried to kill Sev, why am I any different?'
'Are you joking Lils? He's freakin in love with you. He isn't in love with Snape. And he saved the slimeball's life.'
I looked at her and realised that I wanted more than anything for what she just said to be true. Even though I might not have wanted to admit I wanted all of it to be true.
