Repeat Part 1

I swayed on my feet as a pounding headache threatened to make me keel over. I blinked.
The scene before me was confusing. Seven people were sat on big metal chairs. Almost like thrones. Actually they looked a lot like what I imagined electric chairs to look like.
The people had their eyes closed. They were dead. My heart gave a hard thump that made me feel like I was about to throw up.
There were two empty chairs that filled me with foreboding. I couldn't shake the feeling I was going to end up in one.
I looked round at Denise and Kevin and saw the same thoughts flickering through their minds.
'Where are we?' Denise asked. Had we been in a less scary situation I would have laughed. That's always the first thing the hero asks in any movie or book when they wake up in a strange location. Thing is, I was thinking the same thing.
We were standing on a threadbare old carpet. It was deep red and particularly worn near the doorway and beneath the table and line of chairs. The heavy table looked like oak and had an assortment of random objects on it. Everything within me was urging me to memorise every detail of this place but I knew I had to pay special attention to these objects. My life depended on it.
A bright and battered orange yoyo with a frayed string.
A discoloured length of thread that looked as if it had come off some clothing.
A gold wedding ring, deformed with age.
A used up tube of vanilla lip balm.
A tarnished old charm bracelet with boats, butterflies and letters dangling off the chain.
A broken pair of wire rimmed glasses with only one cracked and smeared lens still in the frame.
And and a beaten up, dusty copy of Alice in Wonderland.
'I don't know. Wherever we are it's... Old. Who-' I gulped'- Who are they?'
I knew they had no more idea than I did but I still needed to ask. It helps to ask the question even when you know no-one can answer.
Kev pushed the door a little and watched it swing freely. He half turned back to us, without opening his mouth he was asking if we would follow him.
I nodded 'Stick together definitely. This place is creepy.'
I glanced back at the bodies, ok this place was terrifying.
We started towards the door and I childishly grabbed Denise's hand, she didn't let go. I think if I hadn't done it she would have.
Kev led us onto a narrow landing with an identical door on the other side. The rickety staircase looked as fragile as the floor we stood on. I found myself trying to ease my weight upwards, I don't know what I was trying to achieve but I really didn't want to fall through the ceiling. The the banister had fallen off in some places so that, had this been a dream, I would have already fallen off.
Out of the corner of my eye I saw Kev reach for Denise's other hand.
The wallpaper that had once been an off white flowery pattern was now peeling and blotchily stained yellow like old sweat. This place was starting to smell accordingly.
'Go downstairs? I have a feeling we should go downstairs.' said Kev. It was the first full sentence is heard since finding myself here and it kicked my brain into gear.
'Yeah, why not?' I said, then glanced at the stairs, 'You first though.' He gulped but I think I might have even caught a smile.
We cautiously made our way downstairs, shuffling and holding onto anything but the banister.
The hallway we found ourselves in had the same decor as upstairs. Denise had just opened her mouth to say something when a mocking voice floated through the air, dripping with suppressed amusement.
'Hello there.'
