The very next day, I begged mama to let me stay home from school.
"I could help you here!" I said desperately.
"I can manage." She said, wiping a tear. I sighed as I heaved my bag over my shoulder and opened the front door. There was my friend, winter, as usual, ready to walk me to school. Usually, we would chatter so much, the neighbors would awaken. But today it was silent. One of our neighbors, Kate, who is 17 opened her window and called, " why, what's troubling you?"
"Whatever do you mean" I asked, trying to hold back my tears.
"Don't play with me, Ava! I can tell your upset. For once, I woke myself up. Usually, you're my alarm!" She called. I hate snoopy people.
"Zara passed" I whispered, holding back burning tears.
"What? Speak up" she asked cupping her ears.
"Zara passed!" I screamed and stomped off, leaving Kate and winter staring at me. I was around the market area when I heard Winter call my name.
"Ava! Wait!" She called struggling not to trip over her skirt. I slowed down, arms crossed.
"She might not be here, but she'll be looking after you from above." She gasped when she caught up to me.
"You sound like Zara" I whisper.
"Don't cry" she says as I let out a single tear.
"I miss her so much!" I cry as I hug her tightly.
"We all do." She whispers. I wipe my tears and whisper "we better get going" as I hear the first bell. I knew I was next to take a trip above.
