Young Love Chapter 5

I was upstairs in my room when the door bell rang. With my mascera brush in hand I was finishing up applying the make-up to my eyelashes. Even from upstairs I could hear my mom open the door and say her usual creepy hello.
I grabbed my bag from off my bed and walked downstairs trying not to look desperate.

"Gavin." I managed to choke out over my moms blaring lecture.

"Hi Callie. You ready?"

"Yes."

"Take good care of her!" my mom screamed. "And have her back by midnight."

"And don't you two do anything stupid." came my dads voice from the living room. "I don't feel like dropping by the police station tonight."

"We won't." I replied as I grabbed Gavin's hand and dragged him out of the door.

I jumped out of the passenger side of Gavin's blue pick up truck. With my bag in one hand and Gavin's hand placed firmly in the other, we walked into the backyard where the party was.

The pool was crowded as it usually was at big parties like this. A colorful beach ball was being passed around by a group of guys while their girlfriends stood watching and cheering. The whole school seemed to be gathered in this one spot either eating, talking, or swimming.

"Hey Gavin!" came a voice standing by the snack bar. It was Mike. We walked over still holding hands to see what he wanted.

"Hi Mike. Great party you have." replied Gavin trying to be polite.

"Thank you. Glad you could come. Who's your friend?"

"Callie." I butted in before Gavin could respond. "I'm in your Science class."

"Oh yeah. Now I remember. Well you two have fun.."

"Thank you." I said as we casually strolled away.

I placed my bag down on an empty chair and took off my sundress which I had currently been using as a cover up. We strolled along the side of the pool looking for a place to sit. Out of nowhere I suddenly went flying in the air and face first into the pool. When I surfaced I saw Vikki all over Gavin. She was hugging his bare torsal and laughing going all goo goo eyes over him.

"Get off my date!!!" I said sternly as I climbed out the pool.

"Callie. Hi. You didn't like your swim?"

" Stop trying to change the subject! Get off Gavin before I get you off him myself!!

"But Callie. Gavin doesn't deserve to be going out with someone like you. He should be going out with me. Someone more his type."

"That's it!!!" I grabbed Vikki's wrists doing a special "death grip" my dad taught me. With every ounce of energy I had left in me I shoved her into the pool having her land with a big splash.

"Come on Gavin. Lets leave this spoiled brat her space to swim."

We walked into the house holding hands. I had already dried off outside and had put my sundress over my bikini.

"Come with me. I'm going to bring you somewhere special." said Gavin.

He brought me to the bottom of the stair leading upstairs and covered my eyes. I followed him putting all my faith in his hands as he guided me up the stairs. We walked down a hall and then turned into a room.

"You can open you eyes now Callie."

I opened them and thought I was going to die. In front of me was a huge play room filled with phoose ball, air hockey, a mini movie theater, and anything else you could think of.

"Wow!" I said. "Do you think Mike will mind if were in here?"

"No. I think we'll be fine." he replied as he brought me over to a couch. "Take a seat."

"How did you know about this?"

"Mike and I use to hang in here when we were friends."

"So what happened?"

"He cheated off my paper during the final exams two years ago. When I ratted him out on the teacher, she asked him
if all this was true and he denied everything. So of course, I lost. I'm suprised he invited me tonight."

"I can't believe he would do such a thing!"

"I know. So lets just say he owes me this."

"Yeah. Sorry about Vikki though. She can be such a brat!" I said.

"Oh it's not your fault Callie. But I thought you two were friends."

"Not since the third grade. She drew all over the girls bathroom walls and framed it on me. Permanet markers were not allowed in the class, so she brought her own in, did the dirty work, and then dropped the marker in my bag. When she came back from the bathroom, she said she found writting all over the stalls and demanded a bag check to determind the culprit. I got caught being the only one with a permanet marker in my bag. I tried to explain to the teacher that I didn't know how that got there and how I would never even think of doing anything like that. She didn't believe me so I got sent to the Principle's Office. On my way out the door, Vikki gave me this mocking smile that said "Don't mess with me." all over it. After that I told her I just couldn't be around her anymore. She's been trying to ruin my life ever since. I don't know what I did to anger her that much."

"It's okay Callie. And if you ask me, I think you handled the situation pretty well." he said laughing.

That got me to smile as he took both of my hands in his.

"Your different Callie. Your not one of those girls who wears ten pounds of make up or is constantly worried about her hair. Your smart, brave, and one of the most loving and caring people I've ever met." he paused. "I love you."

I was speachless. I didn't know what to say. But I didn't have to. Gavin leaned in and kissed me. His lips were soft and gentle. They weren't slobbery or gross but gentle and loving. When he tried to back away I followed him back. I didn't want this moment to end. I loved every second of it. When we finally released I was in awe.

"Do you want to go out with me?" Gavin asked.

"Yes! Yes I do!!!" I said with an exciting tone in my voice. "A million times yes!!!"

"Come on. I'll take you home so your parents don't get mad at us that your home late."

"Whatever works for you." I said as we walked out of the party smiling and holding hands.
