The next morning I woke up real early. It was a Tuesday, the last day of school to be exact so I needed to be up, but not this early. I had a plan in mind. One that would convince my parents to let me go to Gavin's beach house. But it required a little preporation.
I gathered a big bowl, a pan, a box of pancake mix, and a cup of water. Pancakes were my Dad's favorite in the morning, exapecially when they're still warm on his plate. I heated up the skillet and mixed two cups of mixture with one cup of water in the bowl. With a spoon in hand I mixed up the batter and poured the first one onto the skillet and waited for the top to bubble. In the mean time I heated up the coffee maker and poured in the beans. My mom was hard to talk to in the morning unless she had her morning cup of coffee.
Twenty minutes later I had three plates of pancakes on the table, two cups of coffee, and a glass of orange juice. I sat in my seat and patiently waited for my parents to awake.
"Do you want a cup of coffee honey?" asked my over tired mother to my father.
"Yes dear." replied my father. "Callie what are you doing up? And you made pancakes!"
"Callie. What did you do all this for?"
"I can't make my parents breakfast? And the heated up maple syrup is on the counter Dad."
"My favorite!" he screamed as he jumped out of his chair."
"Just sit down and relax Mom."
"What about the twin's plates?"
"In the fridge. Just heat them up when they come down for breakfest." I said.
"Okay." my mom said as she sat down and started to cut up her meal.
"So mom I was wondering if I could go to Gavin's beach house for the summer?"
"Who's Gavin?" asked my Dad with a mouthful of pancakes.
"My boyfriend." I whispered.
"Your what?!?" screamed my Dad now spitting his half eaten pancakes onto his plate.
"Now honey we can talk this through. She's at the age. There's no need to be mad"
"NO DAUGHTER OF MINE IS TAKING OFF TO A BEACH HOUSE WITH A GUY I DON'T KNOW!"
"Lower your voice. You'll wake the boys!" my mom lectured."Congradulations Callie. I guess the two of you hit it off at the party. You may go."
"Thank you mom! You won't regret this!" I cheered as I grabbed my school bag and ran out the door.
"What did you just do?!?" my father screamed at my mom on my way out the door.
The bell rang signaling the end of the school day. I ran out the door to find Gavin to share the good news.
"I can go! I can go!" I screamed.
"Wahoo!!!!" Gavin screamed as he grabbed me by the head and kissed me!
It had been a great school year leading up to an even better summer. Gavin and I got an A on our report and I got all the passing grades I needed. Now I was going to spend my summer with my favorite guy of all time.
"Come on Callie. I'll take you home." said Gavin as he grabbed my hand and led me to his truck.
