Loved you once,
Open, fun and free was out motto,
Very slowly things began to change,
Everyone could see the rot,
Blaming each other yet both just as bad,
Each of us choosing to work or visit friends over spending time together,
Coming home in the evenings became a chore,
Alcohol our stress buster of choice,
Marriage a commitment neither if us took seriously,
Each weekend one of us would cheat,
How did we let things ever get to that stage?
Alcohol fuelled rows that became violent and aggressive,
That kitchen knife was to quickly grabbed,
Each and everyday at your graveside regretting my cowardliness,
Why didn't we just leave each other?
