Luncher With A Stranger

So today I did something out of my comfort zone. I signed up for this online thing at my university which gets you to have lunch with a random person (guy or girl) so you can expand your social circle yadda yadda yadda.

Andddd I did it, partly to support a senior I've never even met (just because we're taking the same degree), partly because I wanted to meet... You've guessed it! A guy.

(Haha what I said about wanting to meet new people? LIES, I tell you. I only want to meet guys.

Okay it's not that bad. That was a joke. Why. My joke not funny?)

I am confessing this to the world right now (or, well, Opuss, at least), and it's a little bit embarrassing, but in all honesty, I just really... wanted... to...

I wanted to find someone with whom I can make a connection with and see how it goes from there.

(Desperate, much? I dunno.

It feels like that to me. I can't help but wonder if I need to be actively doing random stuff like this to seek out "the one" because the guy's not going to pop out from behind my bookcase when I'm reading for school and give me a surprise (or the shock of my life). Do you feel like this sometimes?

But then when I do this I feel like I'm doing too much, so I convince myself that hey, no harm meeting someone new just to make new friends!

And it turns out I'm (sorta) right! Making a new friend is always nice. :D )

Point is, I went and had lunch (just lunch, mind you. It wasn't a date or anything) with a stranger (from my school but the school's huge) and it was quite refreshing! I really think that it was a good experience, though the food was not that great (ugh oily fish and chips). But the company was nice, and he was a nice guy.

Nothing may happen (in the "relationship" sense hahaha, and I doubt anything will happen lol) and I'd still feel awesome that I made a new friend. So #goodjob, me!

He held the door for me, (and for this cleaning lady who couldn't open the door on her own and he smiled and talked to her,) and he paid, even though I totally had money out of my pocket already. (Why. I brought money.) He refused my treat to Starbucks... Which made me feel bad because it wasn't a date but it was nice that he was such a gentleman. It made me feel respected... protected? Just nice in general. So thank you. For being so nice. I really appreciate it.

He's very different from me. He likes sports, and he does read, but he skims through books, and he's quite analytical and logical, while I'm a dreamer. I'm realistic, sure, but still a dreamer.

Which isn't to say he doesn't have dreams! He does, and he strives towards them and achieves them and I really admire that.

I also admire his tenacity, and how open he is to change for the better. Like woah. Woahhhhhhh. (Yeap. I'm a writer, people. I'm a writer.)

But you know. Different. It's nice meeting someone different. It's always interesting. (LOL at the number of times I used the word "nice" in this.)

Anyway, I asked him why he refused my treat and he said that I should just accept it because he only treats 3 types of people (I jokingly said pretty girls, handsome guys, and his family but I was wrong):

1) People whose ideas and thoughts he admires
2) People who are richer than him (I am definitely not in this category)
And 3) People he feels grateful to.

And I thought, "That's nice, Imma gonna write it down. What I remember of it."

And I did.

P.S. He said the last three things he learnt from 李嘉诚 (Lee Jia Cheng, for those who don't read Chinese).

Sounds like a really nice guy - get to know him more ;) xx

Haha, he's interesting because we have differing views on things but that's okay! People always think differently. :)

@JanaIsabel Haha, he's an interesting guy because he has differing views from me. Nothing wrong with that, but it makes for interesting conversation! Besides, people always have different views. And I respect his views, but I keep a hold on mine. :D
