This poem was written about a year ago for a friend of mine who was having some problems.
It's been two long months since we last talked
While we, across the campus, walked
And saw the stories that had been chalked
On the paths where we wandered that day
It's been two long months since you said to me
"Sometimes I wonder what I was meant to be
And if life is only what I've come to see
On the faces that I see every day"
Remember how I then answered you
"Life can be hard, this much is true
But life could be great, with someone like you
To share the journey, day-by-day"
You told me of love, life and your dream
Of a wedding with fireflies lighting the scene
A time that was simple, a future serene
And an adventure each blessed day
We sat and we spoke until the sun grew old
The wind grew fierce and the air grew cold
And not for the world would I have sold
Our time spent together that day
Two long months, yet I still remember
That cold, windy day back in late September
When the world was a flame and we, just an ember
I always think back to that day
