Mother's Day Blog

I'm not really a Mothering Sunday fan, and haven't been for a long time. Before I had my own children I would deliberately opt to work on this Sunday in order to avoid the trite poems, daffodils and soppy insincerity. My own mother died when I was quite young. Not very very young but young enough so that she missed all the significant bits of my young adulthood like my first proper job, getting married, having children and that adult to adult relationship that my friends got to enjoy. So I carefully avoided the day because, rather like Christmas, it outlines everything in black felt tip and enlarges everything to super size... So if all is well it is FANTASTIC and if it isn't ..... the loss is exaggerated and amplified a hundred fold.

I continued in this rather 'Bah! Humbug!' Way until a couple of years ago when my friend ( who incidentally doesn't have children ) pointed out that although I do not have a mother, my children DO have a mother, and they should be allowed to celebrate that. And I don't have to feel guilty about It!
Wise words.

Opuss has actually enabled me to express things in a way I never dreamt possible. Two weeks ago I wrote about my mothers death and my grief in a whole new way! And this week writing about spring has reminded me that new life follows on inexorably as spring follows winter. With that in mind I am going to add my Mother's Day poems from my boys! Absolutely with their permission. No plagiarism!
