Moonlight trickles through the trees, dappling the autumnal leaves.
Silver speckles on the bark, tiny beacons in the dark.
Under the glow of mystic light, a hair raising howl enters the night.
Strange creatures creep beside the stream, their ears flatten and teeth gleam.
The leader lurches back his head, a sound of terror to be dread.
The creatures circle in their pack, looking for a tasty snack.
They spot a herd of fallow deer, grazing peacefully without a fear.
They close in upon a lonely runt, then call their brothers to the hunt.
Such pain to which the deer was condemned, made a frightful scream as it met it's end.
Then the creatures went in search of water, unfazed it seems by the terrible slaughter.
With a spectacular chorus of snarl and hiss, they disappeared into the mist.

My two favourite things - drawing jackals and writing stories that end on cliffhangers :)
