High above me
Lay a bird in wait
It's eyes locked on something
Sealing its fate
The trees tower over me
It's branches like fingers
Reaching out to touch me
A caution for anything that lingers
The moon sits above me
Watching with glee
Wondering if the wolves
Will ever come and get me
Now there's a light ahead
I can't see much but that
As I get a little bit closer
I realise where I'm at
Before me sits a little house
So perfect in every way
But maybe I should look again
And not go there today
The house so perfect
Made of candy and things
A gingerbread house
And I know the pain it brings
I've been here before
I vowed never again
It scares me so
And I lost my brother then
For my name is Gretel
And no one knows this part
Did my story have a happy ending?
No, but I wish with all my heart
