Nuala

Her hair falls loosely past her hips
Auburn waves descending in curves and dips
Her eyes are lovely ocean blue
They've seen the false but not the true
Her smile is tight and careful
Her face pure and beautiful
Her skin is fairly tanned and brown
She looks tired and knocked around
Her top is monochrome and plaid
Her jeans are plain and badly made
Her trainers are cheap and ugly grey
The kind that shirks from the light of day
Her nails are bare and her face is tired
Her care for date well expired
Just another Irish girl
Heart ablaze, mind atwirl
She's seen pain and been badly hurt
Tears have often fallen in this life of hers
She wants no part in this cruel place
That has stabbed her back and slapped her face
All she wants is to stay at the side
Of the waters she often slept beside
The gleaming glittering forest home
That she can at least call her own
For no one knows of this paradise
Except for one, and that will suffice
Where the hazel tree grows tall
She climbs up an forgets it all
She sees the world from far up high
Feeling one with the endless sky
She climbs down and returns to life
Full of pain and hate and strife
She goes back to the dreary place
That is now her home, and comes face to face
With her sister who smokes weds all day
What drove her to this I cannot say
She goes inside to see the twins
She marvels at the joy it brings
She loves those two with all her heart
And she hopes they never ever part
She wishes she had someone as well
Then the tears begin to swell
She goes to meet the boy from the lake
She knows her heart will truly break
If she lost him, for he is her bond
Hazel eyes, hair contrast blonde
His hoodie's green and expensive
When they meet, she is pensive
His jeans are frayed and ripped and worn
His hat is backwards, his shoes all torn
Converse, black and deep blood-red
Nothing's done, nothing's said
They make their way to the lake together
She wishes it could last forever
But soon he does the worst of all
She finds a friend, and in love the two fall
The boy she loved and her newfound friend
He betrayed her in the end
She thought she loved him well and true
He loved her, but also another too
She went to the shop and bought a pill
Along with vodka, so strong she felt ill
She went back to the place of dreams
'It's going to end here, it seems'
Sh swallowed the alcohol and the pill
She removed her shoes and jacket and fell
Into the depths of the lake she had found
Without a word without a sound
She let him go and was free at last
But he was there and then he cast
His thoughts aside and dived in deep
Trying to save the girl he wanted to keep
He reached out, and grabbed her tight
But she had already found the light…
