Even in this place of work
No inspiration springs to mind.
The clock hands move across their face
Documenting time
With the whiskers
Of the Cheshire Cat.
I look up
And he grins back
'How are you today, young girl?
Empty head? Oh dear.'
'Silly girl!' says Caterpillar
'Who are you? Why are you here?'
Perhaps I'm nothing
Amongst his blue haze?
Perhaps I'm everything
In Life's mindless daze.
What makes a someone someone
And a no-one nobody?
Why doth the little crocodile
His golden scales continuously
Submerge in the Nile?
Why do we wake up each day?
Why are we here and why do we
Behave a certain way?
Why do we ask questions?
Why do we need to know
Everything, the very nature
Of Nature's mesmerising show?
What makes me, me
And makes you, you?
Why is a raven
Black not blue?
And why must a writing desk
Smirk while I in vain
Hunt fervently for an idea
Although there's nothing in my brain?
How did you like this story?
