You all call me more forgiving,
New life leaping forth each spring,
Loving mother who gives birth to flowers,
Suckling young and birds who sing.
But there is a darker side
To the mother you all see,
I can be as cruel as my sisters
Though no-one suspects it of me.
I can make this green earth tremble,
Rich soil burst through concrete
Which you all insist on spreading
On my beautiful face. Oil will seep
Through the cracks as I bring ruin
To everything you men have built
Whilst you defiled my fertile body,
Spurious deformities the fruit of your guilt.
I will punish, I will roar
And rip your accomplishments apart,
Tear your Babel down from glory
And restore the peace that was at the start.
