I trudged my way through the woods, picking up random sticks and twigs. The sun would hide behind the clouds but every now and then it would show its brightness and erase the darkness of the trees.
I followed the path into the woods, going deeper into the darkness, not really paying attention to where I was going. I suddenly tripped and hit my head against something hard.
"Damn it!" I snapped. I tried to move but I couldn't. I tensed all my muscles trying to get up, but a pounding in my head stopped me. My eyes slowly closed. I forced myself to stay awake.
But then I saw him. Stood there. Watching. Fists clenched. His hair was dark brown. Untidy. His facial expression looked pained and stressed, as if he was troubled about something. I felt hands lift me up and then a pillow against my head. Some was calling my name. The figure vanished.
"Megan?" the voice panicked "Megan can you hear me?"
I groaned. I tried to open my eyes but the pounding in my head came back. I felt something cold being placed on my forehead.
"Ouch!" I squealed. My eyes slowly opened. "Huh?" was all I managed to say. My eyes were still focusing.
"Ohh," someone sighed in relief, the voice sounded like Lucy's. "Your awake."
"What happened?" I stuttered trying to focus on Lucy
"You must have tripped. You were taking so long getting the sticksβ¦"
"That we thought something had happened," Matt interrupted "We then found you on the ground."
"Come on, you go do the simplest job and yet you end up becoming unconscious." Alex insulted. I growled at him which made my head thump.
"Where's Georgia?" I asked, sounding worried without meaning to.
"She's just went to the shops to get more food, don't worry." Lucy said. I sighed and decided to get some rest.
When Georgia returned it was ten to twelve. The morning had gone fast. Too fast. Then again, I had just hit my head.
An image flickered through my mind. It was of the figure I saw as I fell. He seemed more clearer to see now. He was just as he was before, yet somehow different, his fists were clenched, his face was still troubled, his dark hair, untidy. But now his troubled face seemed pale and absolutely perfect in every aspect possible. I was drawn immediately to his eyes, which appeared, as a very dark green. I still wondered if the person I had seen was a dream or not. Had he just been part of my imagination? Or did I actually see someone? My thoughts were rudely interupted by Georgia's voice "What are you thinking of?" she asked "Your face looks weird like that."
I blushed. "Is my face that weird?"
She looked at me, blankly. Alex started laughing.
"What is so funny?" I scowled "Do you have a problem with me because I made you jump and you freaked out?"
He didn't answer but only blushed. I glowered at him.
"Well?" I shouted which didn't help for my head. I sat back down on the log my head in hands. Lucy came over and rubbed my back.
"Breathe," she soothed "Relax, this isn't good for your head."
"I'm sorry, I thought it was funny at the time." Alex said. I smiled at him apologetically.
At nine I decided to get some sleep. As I lay down in my tent I heard the others talking. I did my best to listen.
"What are we gonna do? I haven't planned anything?" Georgia asked
"Well, she won't want anything big because she just hit her head. Soβ¦"
The words jumbled up in my head and made no sense. I tugged the small duvet over me and snuggled down. I could hear faint voices in the distance but I couldn't understand anything they said.
It felt like I was floating in mid-air with a long white sheet around me. I could of been flying. I soared through mountains and green hills. I was over the sea when I dropped. My mouth was wide open ready for a scream but no sound was heard. I suddenly plunged, head first into the sea. I scrambled to get back up but I made no progress in getting to the surface. My arms and legs moved frantically but still, no movement. That's when I saw him. His pale face as perfect as ever. His eyes now pure red. By this point I was sure that the person I had seen in the woods was from my imagination. It had to be that, right? How could his eyes change colour?
I woke up breathing heavily.
