The night-time fell,
And dusk set in,
And dark began its rule.
The air grew damp,
Deep alleys: slick,
For evening, this was fuel.
The darkness roared,
The evening laughed,
The antics, O, were nigh.
The black cats ran,
The rats made haste,
And blue bats graced the sky.
The daemons seethed,
The witches laughed,
The moon was red and dull.
The graveyard sung,
The dead arose,
A hand in search of skull.
The night crept on,
The warlocks spelled,
Concoctions filled the air.
The magick rose,
The air grew full,
Ghosts danced without a care.
The dawn came through,
The night was old,
The evening settled down.
They fell asleep,
The dusk-dark folk,
For night was all their crown.
