I went on a journey for calm
Searching around the world
I couldn't find it in the way
A fresh new leaf was curled
I couldn't see it in the meadows
Or in the fast flowing stream
It wasn't on a mountain summit
Not in the depths of a dream
I couldn't find it in barren wastelands
Or even in country dales
It wasn't in the fur of a squirrel
Or in a lizards scales
I looked around the savannah
But it wasn't to be found
I went to where cold winds blow
Viciously all year round
Unfortunately it wasn't there
The peace I went to find
I just wanted some tranquility
So I could leave my troubles behind
Staring at the rustling trees
Im afraid I strained my eyes
I looked so hard it was painful
On my quest to discover this prize
Usually I can find some solace
In the crest of a breaking wave
But I couldn't find it there at all
Nor in the depths of a cave
In the space behind a waterfall
I thought I could relax
But somehow worry crept in
Through the rocky cracks
I travelled through the tiny towns
Remote, faraway places
Occasionally I saw true peace
On a few fortunate faces
When I asked where they found it
They tapped me on my chest
Saying that in the search for peace
A start in the heart was best
Questing in vain through the pounding
Of my quiet, but casual heartbeat
I suddenly realised what they meant
From my head down to my feet
The place for tranquility cannot be found
It must be accepted within yourself
It's controlling yourself emotionally
Taking good care of your health
It's having no worries and living life
Being free, with no regrets
Realising every moment is precious
God forbid we'd ever forget
I finally found my peace of mind
I reached my final goal
It was tucked away inside of me
Lodged in a silent recess of my soul
Its keeping control amidst the chaos
When your life is falling apart
And being able to pick up the pieces
And move on to a fresh start
In the words of Shakespeare
'To thine's own self be true'
For the only way to discover peace
Is to search inside of you.
