My chest unfolds to show
An origami paper heart
That cannot contain the waters
Of my love for you,
It overflows;
Red pours out of the folds
And creases, staining my palms
With the obviousness
Of my latent longing,
A rolling wave created
By the incessant thudding,
A tsunami of emotion,
My heart becomes a torrential
Downpour of missing you.
And I fold, score, repeat,
Try to recreate the way
Your fingers lovingly
Make a melody in paper,
But the lines are never
The same, never straight,
So I'll wait until you return:
A little tape and glue
And my origami paper heart
Will be as good as new.
