Truth Hurts
Part Nine
Christopher leaned in to kiss me, slowly. His lips were inches away...
I stepped away from him, pulling myself away roughly.
"I can't." I said to his shocked expression.
"B-But why not?" he stuttered, looking at me in shock.
"Melissa." Was the only thing I had to say.
Recognition flickered in his eyes.
Melissa was Christopher's girlfriend for about two weeks now. She was a beauty compared to me. I knew he was in love with her, and plus, she was one of my friends.
"I can leave her." he said with hope.
"No! She's my friend and you can't do that to her! Plus, you know you lover her, not me!! So, no!" I cried, looking into his eyes.
He seemed even more shocked.
"I-I...... Lisa, don't you want to be with me?" he asked.
Direct hit.
"No." was my answer.
I looked away, staring at anything but his eyes, his beautiful sad-filled eyes.
I couldn't face to see them filled with pain.
But I had to.
I needed to.
I turned slowly, looking at his face.
He was hurt, hurt beyond anything before..
"But- Don't you love me?" he asked in a tiny voice.
The killer question.
I could not trust my voice again.
I would spill everything to him.
But I needed to answer him.
I owed him that much.
I didn't want to lie in his face, but I also didn't want to tell him the truth..
What do I do??
