-TIFFANY-
"How does this sound" I began, reading out the invitation I'd just drafted "Tiffany and Nate would like to request your attendance at an engagement/pregnancy/house warming soirée on Saturday August 25th 2012"
"Sounds good" Nate replied, whilst he continued searching the Internet for furniture.
"Hello you two" my mother said, as she entered the house. "Lovely dress Tiffany, where's that from?"
"Nate's closet actually, how was your benefit lunch?"
Nate sniggered a little when I said 'Nate's closet', but we both ignored it.
"Lovely thank you, such a great cause, and everyone commented on the way I'd organised it so I'd say it was a success!"
"You'll have to ask me to help next time, now I've got a lot of time on my hands!"
"I will! I think there's one in the next few weeks so I'll give you the details" she said, putting her handbag on the table in front of us. "What are you both doing?"
"We got the keys to our new house today, so I'm just researching furniture and Tiffany's drafting invites to a house warming party" Nate answered, smiling at my mother.
"Oh how lovely! Why don't you get my personal shopper to look for the furniture? She knows an amazing interior designer, I'm sure you could work together and sort something out!"
"Thank you! Mother, you don't mind if I invite you without an invite do you? These are going to take hours to make!"
"Of course sweetheart, don't worry about it. Just write it in my diary and I'll be there!"
"Thank you" I said, getting up to hug her.
"Nate, here's my personal shopper's cell number, why don't you give her a call? Or you could go and meet her at her store" my mother said, scribbling both details down on a sheet of paper.
"I'll do that now if that's alright?"
"Of course it is, I'll stay and look after Tiffany" my mother said, kissing both Nate's cheeks as he left.
Silence ensued, until my mother spoke up.
"Now he's gone, let's start wedding planning!" she said, pulling out a huge book full of collaged sheets of paper.
"What's this mother?" I said, coming to sit alongside her.
"well, when you're father isn't around I get awfully lonely without you three, so I spend all the days and nights planning weddings. I've done about 100 in total for people around Manhattan, and this is full of ideas, so hopefully you'll like them. They are all based around what I imagine you'd want" she said, flicking through the pages of this Bible for a wedding planner.
"Mother these are so gorgeous!" I said, gazing at every well presented page. There was images from magazines and photographs, ranging from makeup, to dresses, to locations to cakes. There was swatches of materials for dresses adoring every page, and there were various dried flowers as well as business cards regarding the locations of all these wedding gems.
"I'll leave you to have a little flick through, perhaps pick out a few things that you really love and I'll plan it all round that" she said. "You are happy for me to plan it aren't you?"
"I can't think of any one more perfect" I replied, a tear forming in my eye. It was hard to believe that a week or so ago I doubted whether my mother would even attend my wedding, let alone want to plan it all.
"Darling, it's alright! I'm just over the moon you're marrying someone as stable and reliable as Nate"
That was the first real compliment she'd ever given him. Whatever had made her change this much, I was over the moon with it.
