Part 3

I quietly climbed out of the hammock, my heart racing. As I crawled over to the window and peered out, I felt the presence of the wolf standing next to me. The waves lapped against the side of the ship.
"We could climb out?" I suggested in a whisper. We then heard the footsteps getting louder.
"We don't have another option!" Callum said hurriedly as he pushed open the window
"Emilia, you go first," the captain ordered "then you after, Callum."
I put my foot out the window and balanced it on the ledge. I twisted my body round and began to descend down the ships side.
"Wait for me at the bottom." Callum whispered
"Make sure the wolf is with Greptim." I said.
The sand crunched under my feet. I stopped breathing as I felt someone watching me. I heard mumbled voices. I started to run, heading for a small gap in the trees Callum shouted something that I couldn't quite hear.
'Don't look back' I thought to myself 'don't look back, keep running'
I could hear the shouts and growls as I raced through the trees. One trip and I'll be caught. My heart pouncing in my chest as I heard a ferocious growl. I dared myself to look behind and as I did my foot caught onto something and I fell. Tears fell down my face as I lay on the ground paralysed with fear. I could smell blood in the animals breath. I closed my eyes tightly and bit my lip, preparing for the end.
Tight hands bound round my waist and grabbed me off the ground. My eyes still kept shut as I heard loud deafening snarls and grumbles. The arms around me never let go and I could feel my body jump. I then felt the sand tickle my neck.
Cold hands suddenly touched my cheeks.
"Emilia? Wake up! Your safe." The voice of Callum said. A smile grew across my face. I sat up and wrapped my arms around Callum's neck, knocking him over.
"Thank you, for saving me." I said sitting back up straight.
"You were stupid running off!" He said placing some of my hair behind my ear.
"I panicked!" I replied noticing him staring at me "what?"
"Nothing… it's just-" he paused
"It's just what?"
"Just…" Callum's lips suddenly touched mine sending me into shock, he then broke away "you're beautiful." His hand stroked my cheek. Without me being able to say anything, Callum's lips caressed mine until what was happening finally reached my mind.
"No," I said pulling away and standing up "I'm sorry but no this can't happen."
"I'm sorry, I-I didn't… I wasn't…" he stuttered. I smiled at him.
"I'm with Alex, that's all." I said as he stood up.
"Can I still hold your hand?" He asked. I nodded slipping my hand in his.
We walked between the trees, being careful not to make any noise.
"Have the sailors gone?" I asked in a whisper.
"Yes but I think they left some animals behind."
"Did they search the ship?"
Callum shook his head "You distracted them with your running off!"
"When you saved me," I began "who was fighting off the animal as I heard growls as if it was in a fight?"
At first Callum didn't answer, he lead me out to the ocean and onto the ship. As I climbed up everything was quiet. As if no one was even aboard.
"What's going on?" I said in a whisper, not wanting to disturb the silence. Callum looked doubtful and worried. I frowned but he took my hand and led me down the creaky steps. The whole crew was gathered round something lying on the floor. I looked around to see who was missing.
I gasped "Greptim!"
The captain looked up and his expression wasn't one I wanted to see.
"He pulled that animal off me?" I asked Callum as I buried my head into his chest. I felt him nod. I pulled back and walked over to Greptim, who was lying on the floor covered in blood. His face was hidden by deep cuts and bruises.
"Is he alive?" I asked stupidly
"Barely, his heart beat is low." JasJack said. Greptim's eyes fluttered, but remained closed. His lips shivered but he still didn't awake.
