A pearl is formed when a piece of grit from the seabed gets into the oyster through a small gap in its outer shell.
It embeds itself inside the oyster and causes irritation, it's becomes a painful thing to it.
The oyster protects itself from the aggravating piece of grit by coating it in a hard, smooth substance we know as pearl.
So at the heart of every precious pearl is a piece of grit, something which was painful and caused discomfort.
So it is with every "pearl of wisdom" in life, often it takes something painful, difficult, uncomfortable or invasive to teach us a lesson and result in a precious pearl of wisdom.
Wisdom isn't always handed over on a platter, it most often is gained through experiences, through difficulties, through the hurdles of life.
