Gods, Revisited

(In response to DaddyDooDahs piece "Gods")

In every park, at every school, we hear,
"My Daddy's smarter and stronger than yours!"
Too many churches, too many sermons, make the same claim, compounded by curse:

"My way is right! Disagreement means doom!"
But every culture throughout history,
Each with its own icons and images,
Has forged its own path to divinity,

This does not mean our Dads are not real.
This does not mean our Gods are not good.
This only means as people, we're shallow.
Our spiritual nature is misunderstood.

@RichWithey @softwhispers @sjw This was my very first Opuss. Clearly, I felt a pull from the still gestating religion group drawing me in!

Very wise words that make a lot of sense 👏😘

@sjw I've heard a number of people make the argument that, "the god you describe is impossible, therefore he must not exist." But we make impossible claims about a lot of things that we are emotionally attached to, but don't understand well. That doesn't mean they don't exist, often they are just different than we think.

Eloquent write and I strongly agree. I respect other people's spiritual beliefs and I don't know much about other religions thus I cannot argue nor will I even attempt to compel other people to accept my beliefs. Being a Filipina and a Catholic, I was taught about the importance of religion in achieving eternal life; to be reunited with God. But I'm afraid that I've questions about my religion before, more so now after a painful experience that affected me both emotionally and spiritually. Sometimes I ask myself if religions are really vital to achieve eternal salvation when each can have its own flaws which could misguide us. Or is it just the imperfection of its believers and even of the ones who were supposed to strictly adhere to its rules and teachings? @VikingHorn thank you for sharing your thoughts with us. 😊👏👍💚

@softwhispers If you research the beginnings of Christianity and Catholicism, you'll learn quite a bit about other regional religions. There was certainly a wide range of beliefs among early Christians, as far back as disagreements between Paul and the other apostles. I understand if you don't feel like sharing details on a public forum, but I would love to know more about your recent spiritual experiences. Personally, I think that religions are merely props that may be useful to get people started in the right direction, but in the end, the final leg of a spiritual journey must be taken alone. My view has always been that all religions are different paths up the same mountain, and the farther you get along any path, the closer you get to all of the others.

@VikingHorn I appreciate your comment and sensible thoughts. And yes, I have hesitations discussing about it publicly. I find it beneficial though, reading forums and looking at things from other people's perspective and yours was a big help. Thanks again. 😊💚
