The bus rumbled on. We're taking a trip to some old historical manor. How fun. The last time we took a field trip it didn't end well. Half the class got lost and the rest of us were throwing up our not so fresh anymore but would have been good an hour ago if we didn't forget sandwiches. The bus came to a stop, jerking my attention back to the current soon to be disaster. "Everybody remember to stay with your group and have fun!" yelled Mrs. Jaclyn as we entered the home.
Maxden, Emma, Jordan and I went up the creaky staircase. "Those tour guides always put me to sleep I don't know why everybody still listens to them." Jordan stated. We were in the study now, I walked over to the huge bookshelf. "Maybe they know which book to pull out that leads to a secret passage way" I said moving my hand across the old bindings. "Yeah right Katie, this isn't some Scooby-Doo episode." We all laughed. "You're right Emma" Maxden rolled his eyes "You guys are SO funny, c'mon let's go find an interesting room. Books are boring."
We started down the long hallway. "There's so many rooms, I wonder what's in this one" Emma said as she entered a room on the right. "Emma let's catch up with the boys". I said standing in the doorway. Jordan and Maxden were already someways down the hall. "Oh who cares if we split up, like they want to see the same rooms as us" Good point I thought. "Okay you're right". I took in the room. It was pretty cool. A big painting hung over the elegant bed depicting a beautiful sunset. The nightstand next to it was scattered with old photos and had a mirror propped up against the wall, as I was checking out my hair something shinny caught my eye. I turned around and walked across the room to the small dresser. One of the drawers had been slightly open and a locket was sticking out. I picked it up.
Inside there was nothing. I pulled the drawer open all the way and set the locket inside. Next to it was a book. I picked it up. Whoever's locket that was maybe this book would tell me. It came open with a creak. I began reading:
May 18th, 1942
Day 3: It's odd here. The stay has not quite been how I imagined our spring vacation. Just yesterday I saw the butler cleaning up a red stain. He said someone has spilled punch, in their suite? I highly doubt that. Why just this mourning the cook was smuggling something into the kitchen. When I tried to ask what is it she said it was a surprise. Alexander says my imagination has gotten to me . Gracious me maybe he's right. Though I still can't help but feel like this place is strange. Until morrow.
Sincerely,
Victoria Jones.
The rest was blank. Knowing that gave me the chills. "Emma, come read this"silence. I could have sworn she was in the room with me. I dropped the book and stepped into the hall.
"Emma? Emma where are you" I called. Silence again. My heartbeat sped up and an eerie feeling had come over me. I ran down the hall kicking every door open as I went. "Emma! Jordan? Maxden!". I had reached the end of the hall. Where are they? Maybe they left?
I ran back downstairs. The front door was locked. I pulled on the handle over and over my hands sweaty. "Trying to escape?"said a familiar voice behind me. It made me jump. I whirled around. There stood Jordan. My heartbeat slowed. "Very funny Jordan, pranking me like that." He only smiled. A cold, hard smile. Fear boiled up inside me. This wasn't Jordan anymore. I darted for the dinning room but he was faster. Grabbing me by the shoulders he smashed something over my head. I fell to the floor as darkness overtook me.
Four kids walked into the house. I smirked. That's exactly how it had started for me. "Everybody ready?" They all nodded. "Good, cause we've got ourselves another field trip."
