Paul got his braces off.
Just when I thought I couldn't think of him as anymore perfect, he now has a shining smile of perfect, straightened teeth.
Oh, the cruelty.
What was worse is that I spotted Jason with his on again off again girlfriend...who, I may add, is his best friend. Just like Paul and I, except they've actually dated.
Yet...he did not smile. He walked next to her, but did not look at her. He seemed bored. But that didn't keep him from ignoring me during our free period together while she was around.
I sat at a table, reading my book, trying to not feel too much like an idiot, and trying not to seem too disappointed that he wasn't with me.
For a moment, I decided to give up on him.
Until singing class began...
I saw him, and waved at him, smiling. He saw me and grinned back. My heart fluttered.
We had singing class for the lunch period, so after about a half hour, we were dismissed for lunch break. I walked to the door, knowing he walked behind me, and opened it, holding it for the other singers filing out of the classroom.
He grinned at me again, staring right into my face, those green eyes glittering.
"Hello," he said softly, and I met his eyes, trying so hard not to blush.
"Hey," I said cooly, hoping he bought my fake, casual attitude.
Once he was past me, I turned and stared at Carrie, who was smiling from ear to ear.
"Ooooo," she whispered, waggling her eyebrows.
But I decided to not read too much into it.
I walked into the cafeteria, accompanied by Carrie and Jenny. As we walked down, who could have been walking about fifteen feet away with his lunch in hand? When I saw him, I grinned again, giggling at how many times we'd seen each other.
He smiled back, brilliantly, before I looked away, too shy to be able to keep my gaze on his face.
"Emmmmm!" Carrie and Jenny squealed once he was out of sight. "Aaaaahhh!"
I contained my excitement pretty well, only doing a tiny little dance with my feet before keeping my face straight and my cheeks their usual color.
Almost to mock me, the image of Paul's brilliant smile flashed through my mind, and I swallowed, trying not to dwell on how good he looked.
But...it didn't really work.

Writing is my life. Forever. I want to be an author when I grow up. I write all the time. When I'm happy, sad, angry...it's an escape. Oh, and I love green hearts. I absolutely love them.
