Still completely embarrassed, I grabbed Carrie, who held her bunch of roses dreamily in her arms.
"Walk me to history?" I asked her.
"Mmmmhm," she smiled, looking down at her roses that her boyfriend had given her.
No sooner than when we had taken five steps, I heard Jason's voice behind us.
"Carrie, did your boyfriend buy you flowers?" he called.
We stopped in our tracks and turned. There he was.
I tried to play it cool, and swallowed hard as he came and started walking with us.
Carrie chatted excitedly about all of the things her boyfriend had done, and I looked at his face. He smiled, not looking at me, but no doubt knowing I was looking at him.
Once there was a lapse in conversation, I opened my mouth, and before I could stop myself, I asked him a very dumb question.
"What are you doing for your girlfriend for Valentine's Day, Jason?" I heard my voice ask sweetly.
"Oh noooooo," I thought as soon as I said it.
His mouth opened, and he looked at me, green eyes flashing. "Uh..."
He closed his mouth, blinking.
"Uh..." he looked down at the floor.
"Nothing?" I pressed, surprised at how calm I sounded.
"Well I...I'm taking her out for dinner," he said softly, looking away.
And there it was.
He did have a girlfriend.
"Oooooh," I gushed, masking my disappointment.
My early blunder paled in comparison to this one.
It was obvious he didn't want me to know he had a girlfriend.
But now, there's no denying it.

Writing is my life. Forever. I want to be an author when I grow up. I write all the time. When I'm happy, sad, angry...it's an escape. Oh, and I love green hearts. I absolutely love them.
