Chapter 2
Sitting in the alleyway, I hear a noise, interrupting my thoughts about our flawed society. The shoes make a clacking sound on the pavement which lets me know that it's someone with money. Shoes are a luxury here and those with shoes normally just have soft little sandals, this is a shoe with a hard sole. "Rich. Government. Coming for me." I think. I get up and run.
I sprint past the dumpster and around a corner, knowing that the high tech surveillance cameras will catch me. I don't care if I am caught on film. I will be out of here soon enough.
I hear a yell behind me and now multiple feet all wearing the insanely expensive for these parts shoes. I snort. "Those idiots are just telling all the outlaws around that they're not from here." I think to myself.
They are running towards me. Am I worried? No. I am much faster then them. I know these parts. They are just used to their comfy high tech city.
I keep on running. I sprint forward, now out in the open. I need to get out of this place as soon as I possibly can. This is the place where I am vulnerable, the place where anything could happen. The place where there is nowhere to hide.
I sigh in relief when I see another alley just ahead. I should pick up speed, but I don't. Instead, because I know those government idiots are far behind me and I am so close to safety.
The moment I slow down is the moment that hands clasp around my mouth and hands.
I try to scream but the sound comes out muffled. And it's not like there would be anyone around to hear me. Anyone that cared.
"SHUT UP!" It's a man.
"DON'T YOU SEE THAT YOU ARE RUINING EVERYTHING?!" And a woman.
"We want to help" The woman whispers in my ear.
Yeah sure. Not likely.
"We are one of the Daekeness."
This stops me in my tracks. The Deakeness are people like me. Ones who have escaped. We are called the Daekeness because we are from the darkness and we wish there was darkness in the day. (It is pronounced "daykeness." Only we actually know what we are called. That is the point.
"You can let go of me now." I say relaxing.
"Ok." The man says.
"Come with us." The woman says.
She takes off running in the opposite direction as the alley that I was running towards.
I hesitate briefly, but then chase them off into the unknown.
Note: Like it? I am changing the title to: "To Be Free." Please give feedback, I hope you all like it!
