November... It's a strange month
Gone is the excitement of Halloween
The soft hues and golden ambers of Autumn
The crisp mornings and blue skies
We say hello to bare trees, grey mornings and unpredictable rain.
November....it's quite non-descript
Wedged in between autumn and winter
A month where the retailers just can't resist injecting that Christmas spirit just a little too early
A month where the heating has to go on, and the winter coats come out.
There's the thrill of the fifth,
Remember, remember the fifth of November.
Penny for the Guy?
The booms, the whees and the aaaahhs.
Then there's the eleventh,
Lest We Forget, eleven o'clock on eleventh day of the eleventh month
A somber time for somber reflection on those who gave their lives for our freedom.
Then there's the twenty-first
My mothers birthday, she would have been 80 this year
Now that would have been good innings as they say
But alas mother nature had different plans for her.
Then there's the thirtieth,
For those Scots amongst us
Freedom! Good ole feast day of Saint Andrew the patron saint of Scotland and believe it or not Greece.
It's quite a boring month ...or is it?
Tutankhamen's tomb was discovered in November
It's Thanksgiving, time for bone crushing sales
The Berlin Wall came down as East Germany reopened its borders.
JFK was assassinated in November
And Darwin published his pivotal Origin of the Species.
November...it's an obscure month
It passes us by in the blink of an eye
Before we know it we can legitimately prepare for Christmas
And then another year will have flown by.
