The Weeping Willow

Mr Willow Tree
Are you really weeping?
Are your branches
Hiding your sorrow?

I sit beneath you
Silently sobbing
Covering my face
From the winds of tomorrow

Are we twins
Locked in grief?
Mourning the passing
Of a simple belief

Your leaves sway
Delicately in time
I can't but help think
Your regret is mine

What is happening
To our beautiful earth?
Will we ever witness
An environmental rebirth?

Our planet is dying
Consumerism king
Habitats destroyed
No Winter, no Autumn, no Spring

The great polar bears
Have long since gone
Frogs,toads,salamanders
No longer spawn

They've drilled for oil
They've cleared the land
They've logged the forests
All at mans greedy and selfish hand

Our days are numbered
It's just you and me

The last human

The last tree

It's too hot for us now
Tears can't cool me down
Your leaves no longer fan me
They're now dry, withered and brown

Mr Willow Tree
I think
we're
dying
I'll stay
with you now
Under
your
weeping
embrace
Our murder
Has the
fingerprints
of the
Entire
Human Race
